The Stennis Family Foundation (SFF) was founded by Erin & Michael Stennis after Michael was diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer.

SFF provides educational outreach to the minority community. However, increased efforts have been focused on the African-American community, a population disproportionately impacted by the disease. African Americans are diagnosed and die from colon cancer more than any other racial or ethnic minority group in the United States, largely because they are often diagnosed at significantly later stages when the disease is harder to treat. While colon cancer is one of the most lethal forms of cancer, it is also one of the most treatable when detected early.

In October 2003, Michael lost his battle with cancer. However, Erin as a member of the Stennis Family Foundation Board of Directors continues to educate others about this deadly disease through lectures and community health presentations.
